Who we can help

For adults with a recent injury or symptoms that have lingered, who want to understand what is going on and get back to the things that matter: sleeping more comfortably, walking, working, exercising or playing sport.

Common reasons people contact us:

  • Back or neck pain, including pain that spreads into an arm or leg
  • A painful or stiff shoulder, knee, hip, elbow or ankle
  • A sprain, strain or sports injury
  • Tendon pain that flares with activity
  • Pain that has lasted for months, or keeps coming back
  • Returning to work, exercise or sport with confidence

What the first visit involves

Your first appointment lasts 60 minutes, so there is time to understand the problem properly:

  1. We talk through how it started, what makes it better or worse, and what it is stopping you doing

  2. We assess how you move, and check strength, flexibility and the joints and nerves involved where relevant

  3. We explain our findings in plain English and agree a treatment plan with you

  4. Where suitable, treatment starts in the same visit, with exercises you can begin straight away

If further medical investigation or another service is needed, we’ll explain why and what the next steps are.

Seeing you at home means we can look at what aggravates the problem, such as your desk set-up, the stairs or getting in and out of the car, and fit exercises around your day.

How treatment can help

Treatment usually combines hands-on techniques where appropriate with exercise that progresses as you improve, plus practical advice on staying active while things settle.

For a recent injury, the focus is on settling symptoms and restoring movement and strength. For longer-standing pain, we look at what is keeping it going and build activity back up gradually, at a pace you can sustain.

We review your progress at each visit and adjust the plan, including a graded return to work, exercise or sport. You book each appointment as you need it: there is no fixed course to sign up to.

What patients say

I injured my knee playing tennis and booked in with Max for physio. He quickly worked out what was going on and gave me a clear plan to get back to playing. My knee is feeling so much better now. Would definitely recommend Max he’s the best in the local area!

Common questions

Do I need a GP referral or a scan first?

No. You can contact us directly. If you already have a scan report or a letter from a specialist, it is helpful to have it to hand.

Can you help with a sports injury?

Yes. We assess and treat muscle, joint and tendon injuries from sport and exercise, and plan a gradual return to training that suits your sport.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the problem and how it responds. We agree a plan at the first appointment and review it as you go, and you book each appointment as you need it.

Do I need any equipment?

No. We bring a portable treatment couch and everything needed for the appointment. A little clear floor space is usually all we ask for.
